Reducing the risk of heartburn

Lifestyle and dietary changes can reduce the discomfort of heartburn. Maintain a healthy weight, avoid tight clothing, keep a diary to identify trigger foods, eat smaller meals and don’t eat right before bedtime. Typical trigger foods include alcohol, chocolate, coffee, fatty and/or fried foods, ketchup, tomato sauce, citrus products and soft drinks. Left untreated, heartburn can cause serious medical conditions.

Talk to your physician about making a referral to Dr. Amit Kamboj, MD, or visit nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/heartburn.html.
